Model assumptions & calculation method
What this model measures
Expected contribution per dispatched, single-item order and per month. It includes the fixed costs you allocate here. It is not net business profit, settlement timing or a cash-flow forecast.
Net retained revenue = discounted selling price ÷ (1 + VAT rate) × (1 − return rate). Full refunds reverse sales and sales VAT. Enter costs net of recoverable VAT; include any non-recoverable tax in the relevant cost.
Stock and returns
Stock expense = landed unit cost × [(1 − return rate) + return rate × write-off rate]. Resaleable returns remain inventory and are not expensed again. Written-off returns have zero salvage value. Later markdowns, unsold opening stock and inventory financing are not included.
Fees and break-even
Commission is calculated on the discounted price using your selected VAT basis. Expected commission = initial commission × [1 − return rate × commission-refund percentage]. Payment fees apply to every dispatched order and are assumed non-refundable.
Outbound and other per-order costs apply to every dispatch. Return handling applies only to returns. Monthly fixed costs are divided by dispatched orders. Break-even and target prices hold rates, unit costs and monthly volume constant; tiered fees and caps are not modelled.
Using your own terms
All starting scenarios are fictional examples. Check each fee basis and refund policy against your contract. If payment fees are included in commission, set payment fees to zero. Currency selection changes the unit label only, not the values.
